FedEx
Public Statements Risk
FedEx CEO, Raj Subramaniam is low profile especially on social media; his Instagram account is private. FedEx is under fire for fraud regarding the sale of trucks in 2023. However, the company and Subramaniam do not make public statements that are politically risky. The company's site has an extensive corporate values section, linked to from the Corporate Responsibility section in the footer, that mentions DEI, sustainability, ESG, and supplier diversity. As one of the main alternatives to the public sector mail system, it's uncertain how risky any of this is for the brand, especially in light of the challenges UPS has faced.

Political Contributions Risk
FedEx contributes with a notable Republican skew at a 3:2 ratio compared to Democratic giving. An overwhelming majority of contributions come from the company PAC, with slightly more than a tenth of donations coming from senior executives. FedEx's contribution level is very high, solidly in the upper-middle of the spectrum for organizations in the Industrials Sector. Partisanship is notable yet comparable to close competitor UPS. Contribution recipients include controversial political figures Hillary Clinton, Paul Ryan, and Ted Cruz. Partisanship and magnitude of contributions raise risk but benchmarking to sector mitigates.

Political Dichotomy Risk
FedEx has a diverse customer base due to the service provided. This type of service results in consumer apathy toward how or what the company does as long as its products arrive. However, FedEx acknowledges in its 10K that one of the many risk factors is the competitiveness of the industry, which leads individual consumers and corporate consumers to have a variety of options in terms of shipping, such as Amazon and UPS. FedEx has faced backlash due to offering discounts to NRA members which has made individual consumers threaten to boycott. If FedEx continues to offer discounts to groups like these, picking a political side, then they are at high risk of boycott with many alternative shipping brands as consumer substitutes.

Associational Risk
In 2017, a Memphis-based FedEx contributed to former President Trump, but this is not alarming because of how long ago it occurred and the fact that there have been no other articles drawing attention to a connection with Trump since then. Besides this, there are no risky relations to be identified, including on social media. The current CEO and Chairman both have positive reputations. The brand has also contributed to divisive politicians like Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, and Hillary Clinton.

Brand Visibility Risk
People don't think about their mail if it isn't late and isn't damaged. The brand has high viisbility due to the public prevalence of its delivery trucks and shipping stations, but people are less likely to care about values from a brand providing a simple A-B service.
