eBay
Public Statements Risk
eBay CEO, Jamie Iannone, has a low profile across social media and he tends to stay out of the public eye. As an organization, eBay avoids scandals relatively well with the most recent being 2020, which was a stalking case. As far as advertisements go, the company does not assume a particular partisan stance. The site is mainly functional but includes in the footer sections on DEI and sustainability, including an extensive graph ranking areas of focus by business and ESG impact. It identifies ESG, DEI, and corporate political responsibility as economic opportunities.

Political Contributions Risk
eBay contributes to Blue causes over Red at a 3:2 ratio, with the vast majority of contributions coming from the PAC rather than senior executives. The company's combined contribution level is high but in the middle of the pack when benchmarked to the Consumer Discretionary sector. The company has contributed to controversial political figures Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. Risk is elevated by the size of contributions but mitigated by relative bipartisanship.

Political Dichotomy Risk
Contributing with more to Democrats, eBay has been known to have a minimal social media presence, avoiding consumer drama and politicized issues. Their customer base is extremely diverse, having no meaningful tilt toward either side of the politcal spectrum. The risk factors listed within their 10K state that the largest risk to the corporation comes from the main business of relying on eBay sellers to sell and generate revenue for the company. However, there is little mention about any risk from consumers outside of creating supply and demand for eBay's market to monetize. The presence of alternative consumer marketplaces represents a risk, mainly from its right-leaning customers.

Associational Risk
The CEO Pierre Omidyar is known to be left-leaning. His foundation, the Omidyar Network, has contributed financially to Accountable Tech, a group that targets and boycotts Elon Musk. Additionally, in 2016, Omidyar donated to an anti-Trump PAC. However, the Omidyar Network has also contributed to American Compass, a group that contributed to Project 2025's Presidential Transition Project, created by a group of organizations with a "hard-right, authoritarian agenda." This association seems out of character for Omidyar, but contributes to an elevated risk profile.

Brand Visibility Risk
eBay is a well-known platform, though isn't values- or lifestyle-based in any way. It is somewhat insulated from responsibility from the things sold on its platform, but still accepts some risk from carrying a wide variety of items. As a third-party abritrator of sales, eBay faces inevitable implicit risk.
